Over the last few months I’ve been busy recording my 2011 Celtic Connections New Voices commission ’3G’. The album was officially released on the 20th of January 2013 where we performed the full record along side Duncan Lyall‘s 2012 new voices piece ‘Infinite Reflections’.

In other news I’m currently up at the Old Laundry Studio in Glenfinnan with Blazin’ Fiddles arranging new material of the next album.

I’ve also been jumping around Europe with Blazin’ Fiddles. This week the band are heading out on a tour of the Scottish Western Isles on a rib! I’ve never been as excited about setting off on a tour before. I hope the weather stays calm for us Tour Video to follow shortly.

The Boy & The Bunnet had a great two week run at the Edinburgh Fringe, lovely show to be part of and great going to work everyday with such a great bunch of musicians. Hopefully I’ll be back giving my best Craw impression soon.

Coming up next month I’ll be up in the highlands for the Blas festival with both Blazin’ Fiddles & Maeve MacKinnon! I’ll also be filmed with both bands as part of the festival so should be on the telly soon.

I’ve also been loving playing with Blazin’ Fiddles over the last few months, Next up for the band is a trip out to the Festival Internacional do Mundo Celta de Ortigueira in Spain followed by another quick flight over to the Isle of Mann for the Yn Chruinnacht Celtic Festival next weekend.

Down at Grans House Studio I’m currently working on Anna Massie & Mairearad Green’s 2nd duo album. The girls have an incredible ability to apparently control the weather and every session they’ve done down here as coincided with a beautiful summers day. So much so that I’ve discovered another recording space in the studio, The decking! Great for recording accordions, not so great for background sheep noise.

The debut album titled Based On True Events by my band The Halton Quartet is finished and available from the bands website. We were playing at the Northern Roots festival in Inverness last weekend, and will be playing across the country over the next few months to promote the album. The Halton Quartet are Adam Bulley, Chas Mackenzie, Ruaridh Campbell and I. You can buy Based On True Events album here.

The week after I had Rachel Hair, Jenn Butterworth and Euan Burton in recording Rachel’s 3rd album. Really chilled out few weeks dispute Jenn’s best efforts with her nesspresso coffee machine / Starbuck deliverers and Euan and myself’s 5 a side’s efforts.

Both albums should be out early 2012.

At the start of September I was down at Moseley Folk Festival in Birmingham with Eliza Carthy and her band. I’m really loving her new album and it was great getting my head around all the new songs. I also got to get my hands around a Hammond which is always exciting / terrifying in equal measures. Her band definitely have the most intelligent chat of all the bands I’ve worked with

While at Moseley I met up with Scott Mathews and ended up on stage with Scott and his band in Glasgow a few weeks later. It was brilliant getting to play with them all but I’ve no idea how I ended up playing shaker and tambourine on the 2nd number in the set. I’m pretty happy playing anything with keys but I’m no percussion player! Think that’s the most nervous I’ve been on stage for years.
